The City of Melbourne is located on east central Florida's Space Coast. Melbourne is about 1-1/2 hours due east of Disney World and an hour's drive south of the Kennedy Space Center. Most of Melbourne is located on the Florida mainland, however a small portion is located on a barrier island. The Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean surround the barrier Island. The mainland and the barrier island are connected by a pair of four-lane, high-rise bridges -- the Melbourne Causeway and the Eau Gallie Causeway.
Melbourne and Eau Gallie feature two historic downtown areas, each with specialty shops and other attractions. In downtown Melbourne you'll find some of the older, historical buildings along the main avenue (5th avenue), dominated by antique shops, some candle shops, book stores, and many other specialty shops. You can spend a couple of hours browsing along the street...it's enjoyable. Crane Creek Promenade is a popular manatee watching area near downtown Melbourne. Brevard Museum of Arts and Sciences is in downtown Eau Gallie. Many well known performers perform at the The King Center for the Arts. The Melbourne Arts Festival is nationally well known and is held annually on the last weekend of April.
Melbourne has its own International airport which offers full navigation and air traffic control facilities and also flight schools.
